Gambling houses: presence non grata among those struggling the most

Half of the 405 gambling and betting houses located in the city of Madrid are distributed in just 5 districts. These businesses seem to target low income areas, with a less educated population and a considerable percentage of migrant population; a community especially vulnerable to this phenomenon.

Amid a fog of sanctions: tracking down Russia's wheat and oil exports

American and British bans on Russian oil has increased the pressure on European countries to do the same, but nations like Germany and the Nedherlands can't afford it. On this story we analyze which countries depend the most on Russian petrol, as well as how a disruption on wheat supply chains could have a disastrous effect on a war-torn country like Yemen.

Who are the female directors that didn't make it into the BBC's greatest movies list?

Back in 2016, 177 movie critics from all around the world (actually, 82 from the US) chose what they considered the best 10 movies of the 21st Century. In the end, only the 100 most voted made it into a final list. A list with only 11 movies directed or co-directed by women. So we wondered: what other movies were selected but simply didn't appear on the final ranking? And lastly, do those movies -in general- portray more nuanced female characters, according to the Bechdel test?

For seaweed farmers in Zanzibar, climate change is a current threat

Seaweed farming, a sector wounded to death by climate change, represents the lifeline of some 23,000 women in the Tanzanian archipelago of Zanzibar. However, in recent years, good harvests have become less and less common due to much warmer superficial waters of up to 38 degrees Celsius. Pests and diseases seem to be the new normal.

The silent epidemic: a dive into domestic homicides in Spain

A map show the percentage per 100,000 female residents of women killed in Spain since 2003.
		      La Rioja, Cantabria and Navarra occupy the top three.

On this project we analyze some of the most important aspects related to sexist violence in my country of origin, Spain, like where more women have been killed in the last 18 years, as well as which regions register the higher number of police complaints.
